Paula Steele, L.Ac, M.S., M. Ed. is both trained and licensed in the state of New York and nationally board certified in acupuncture through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). For over 11 years she has been helping people of all ages with a variety of medical conditions since graduating from the New York College of Health Professions in Syosset, NY. During this time she also taught Oriental Medical theory, techniques and was a clinic supervisor at the New York College for over three years.
“My goal is to make accessible the healing power of Traditional Chinese Medicine as part of a balanced lifestyle.” At On Point Acupuncture, Paula is dedicated to helping each patient find their optimal health through a compassionate, healing partnership. Through respectful listening and dialog, patients gain an understanding of their role in helping themselves throughout the healing process working with acupuncture.
Paula’s background includes a Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance, a Master of Education Degree in Exercise Physiology/ Dance Medicine, and a 4-year Diploma in Eurythmy, which she joyfully taught for 15 years at the Waldorf School of Garden City. Thus, her years of performing, teaching and training in the movement arts allows her to therapeutically work using a sensory skill of detecting nuance of movement and energy. This provides a unique perspective on maintaining the flow of Qi or energy through the body because illness or even the lack of robust health is often just a hindrance of the energetic movement within the body. Changing those patterns using acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can be tremendously transformative.
A knee injury which became a chronic problem over several years initiated Paula into how acupuncture and its complimentary modalities could assist in overcoming the crippling pain and limitations she was experiencing. “Once I began my road to recovery, I’ve been literally running with this idea ever since. And it’s not just ME that has experienced the wonderful effects of acupuncture, because I’ve seen it work over and over again with my patients.”
The statement “Acupuncture is a healing science practiced artistically” characterizes Paula’s approach to working with Oriental Medicine. “My approach is to integrate the wisdom of a 4,000 year old ancient practice of Eastern Oriental Medicine healing arts with that of modern, scientific Western understanding of illness and disease. “ This provides a platform for the individual, personalized treatment plan that is the hallmark of her approach. At On Point Acupuncture, each patient receives specific treatment that addresses their immediate medical concerns as well as having their constitutional, underlying conditions addressed. In addition, patient education is stressed so that the work started in the treatment can be supported by mindful lifestyle changes at home. She will take the time to listen to your concerns in order to provide you with the support, information and necessary tools to help you achieve sustainable wellness and health.
